My name is Dan Alexander and I live in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. Car detailing has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.
I was born in Eastern Europe in the early 80’s. For most families during that time, owning a car was a pipe dream. Due to bans on foreign imports, we had to rely on the government-owned factories to produce our cars. In the unlikely event you could afford a new vehicle, it could take up to 7 years to receive it. This led to a rapid expansion of the used car and parts market. Anyone who had the skill to fix and maintain vehicles did. It was a great way to make some money on the side.
My grandfather ran a makeshift automotive shop out of a 1 bedroom apartment. At the age of 5, I was too young and naive to process much of what was going on. But I loved the smell and feel of new car parts. I used to make pillow forts and use old steering wheels to pretend I was driving. I would fetch my grandfather’s tools, turn on blinkers, push the brake pedals. He told me I was helping and I believed him. I took those duties seriously. Although looking back on it now, I was definitely in the way. A lot. It wasn’t long before I found my strength. A task I could be proud of and be safely out of my grandfather’s way. Cleaning stuff!
I’ve spent a lot of time over the years detailing cars. From beat-up rust buckets to high-end luxury vehicles, I love them all. There is a technique or product out there meant to get any job done. Including yours.
I am obsessed with having a showroom worthy detail on my vehicles. This has little to do with impressing others or showing off. I’m still that 5-year-old whose only dream was to own a vehicle one day.
